NEO kicked off the season this weekend and endured some pretty tough hunting conditions. As anyone who hunted this weekend knows, the weather presented some serious challenges. Winds were sustained over 20mph for most of the weekend and Saturday was a real soaker. However with all of our prostaff out there, we did get our eyes on a bunch of deer.
No deer were harvested on camera, but we learned a lot about some new spots and actually had a very close encounter with one of the deer on our hitlist. Kevin Thomas drew back on Applesauce (click for photo) at 17yds and just as he was about to walk into our shooting window he picked us off on the treestand. We plan on getting the video of the hunt on the website by the end of the week, but it looks like we’ll have to let that stand site cool off for a couple weeks before we try and hunt the apple orchard again. We also saw some chasing and rutting behavior and have heard reports of the same from other parts of the region.
We could be in for an early rut, so if you have an opportunity to get out and the wind is right, anything can happen. The guys are in the treestand right now, and with any luck we’ll get you a successful hunt on the website within the next week. Good luck out there and let us know what is happening in your woods.
